Welcome to PhysioWorks!
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease.
After a thorough assessment, they provide treatment and education for a wide range of health problems to ensure you make the most of your lifestyle. We live longer and busier lives than ever before and our bodies sometimes need a little help to stay in good working order. Your Physiotherapist can recommend the best way to treat problems which may be stopping you from enjoying an active life. Physiotherapists can also advise you on ways to PREVENT potential health problems from occurring before they arise.
At PhysioWorks, our therapists are certified in acupuncture, Graston Techniques, as well as various manual treatment techniques to help you get back to what you want to do quickly and efficiently.
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
The pelvic floor is an important group of muscles and soft tissue structures that support the organs in the pelvis, including the bladder, urethra, and rectum, as well as the vagina and uterus in women in the prostate in men. The pelvic floor muscles are closely associated with the sphincter (valve) muscles that control urination and bowel movements. Many bladder and bowel symptoms that lead people to seek medical help are due to dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles and not to the organs themselves. Furthermore most cases of pelvic pain are related to the muscles in the pelvic floor and not the bladder or bowels. In many cases, physical therapy using a variety of techniques to rehabilitate these pelvic floor muscles can lead to significant and lasting relief of symptoms.
Physiotherapists providing treatment dedicated to the pelvic floor have taken further studies and practice in the area of the pelvic floor and the conditions that may arise from the lumbopelvic area. These physiotherapists are qualified to do internal examinations in addition to other physiotherapy techniques.
Some conditions that can be treated with pelvic physiotherapy include:
urinary incontinence
frequency and urgency
bowel dysfunction
pelvic pain
sexual dysfunction
pre- and post-natal care
pelvic organ prolapse
post-radical prostatectomy incontinence and erectile dysfunction
various other symptoms related to the above list
What to expect at your first visit:
A detailed consultation discussing your condition and symptoms will allow for appropriate assessment to follow. The assessment may involve an internal examination to provide information relating to the pelvic floor muscles, nerves, and other structures in the area. From this an individualized plan will be developed. This will include treatment options and a personalized home program.
You do not require a doctor’s referral. Check with your third party insurance provider about coverage.
**At this time Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is limited to Cis-Female clients. If you are Cis-Male or have undergone Gender Affirmation, please give us a call so we can assist you in finding a practitioner with the additional training to assist you.**
Traditional Massage Therapy
Massage therapists assess and treat the soft tissue of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments. Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of these soft tissues of the body in order to relieve pain and symptoms of stress or to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function.
Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.
